About Dr Leung

Dr Gracemary Leung is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Fellow of both the British Psychological Society and the Hong Kong Psychological Society. She brings extensive experience from a long-standing career in the NHS, where since 1978 she has held a number of clinical and leadership roles.

Dr Leung has developed and managed services across a wide range of client groups, including community-based rehabilitation for individuals with schizophrenia, programmes for behaviourally challenged adolescents and children, and support for individuals with alcohol and gambling difficulties. She also has experience working with people with physical disabilities and cognitive impairments, including brain injury.

From 1991, Dr Leung served as Director of Community Forensic Services and worked for a decade as an Expert Witness in mental health cases. Clinically, she has worked with individuals experiencing complex mental health issues including psychosis, personality disorders, and compulsive behaviours. Her therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), with experience in pain management, suicidal ideation, and relationship difficulties.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Leung has held academic appointments at The University of Hong Kong, where she taught in the departments of Psychology and Social Sciences, and served as Director of the Psychological Services Unit and Acting Director for Student Development and Counselling. She continues to be active in research and teaching, with a focus on problem gambling and behavioural addictions.

Dr Leung is also experienced in delivering training workshops on communication, parenting, stress and change management, and workplace wellbeing across both corporate and public sectors. She joined Central Health Hong Kong in 2020 and is currently a supervisor for Mind Hong Kong.
